Gift Box MOQ Guide: Minimum Order Quantities Explained
Every minimum on this page is the live production floor number, not a negotiating position. What MOQ means, the exact minimum for every box format we run, why minimums exist at all - and the honest routes to launch when you need fewer.
Updated October 21, 2026
What Our Minimums Actually Are
The minimum order for fully custom rigid gift boxes is 100 pieces - magnetic, two-piece, drawer, jewelry and specialty shapes all included, with custom dieline, Pantone-matched wrap and foil at no template lock. Velvet, cylinder tube and apparel formats start at 200 pcs; mailers and paper bags at 300; food-grade cartons at 500.
Reorders carry no minimum penalty: tooling from your first run is stored free, so repeat runs skip the setup economics and take automatic tier pricing.
Industry context: most rigid-box factories set MOQ at 500-1,000 pieces. How we hold 100 - and what it costs per unit at each tier - is quantified in the 2026 price guide. If you are launching small, the low-MOQ program page covers the full package.

What Does “MOQ 100 pcs” Mean?
MOQ 100 pcs means 100 boxes of one size and one design. Each size has its own dieline, board cut and setup, so two sizes need 100 pcs each — 100 + 100, not 50 + 50. Two different printed designs on the same size count the same way.
- One size, one artwork: 100 pcs.
- Two sizes (for example a small and a large box): 100 pcs of each size.
- Same size and dieline in two colorways: often possible inside one run — confirmed on the quote, because each extra artwork adds plates.
- Reorders of an existing design: no minimum penalty; tooling from the first run is stored free.
The 100-pc minimum applies to rigid formats — magnetic, lid-and-base, drawer, jewelry and specialty shapes. Velvet, cylinder tube and apparel boxes start at 200 pcs; mailers and paper bags at 300; food-grade cartons at 500.

Why MOQs Exist at All
Tooling amortization
Your cutting die and foil plates are made once per dieline. Spread over 100 boxes they are a visible cost line; below that they cost more than the boxes themselves.
Material minimums
Greyboard and wrap paper are purchased by the ream and roll, not by the sheet. A run has to consume enough material to open a roll economically.
Changeover cost
Setting up the wrap line, calibrating print and drying takes the same hours whether the run is 100 or 10,000 pieces. MOQ is where setup stops dominating unit price.
QC sampling
Inline quality checks pull units at fixed intervals. Very short runs lose a meaningful percentage of output to inspection alone.
Need Fewer Than 100? The Honest Options
| Option | Quantity | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| 48h rapid prototype | 1 unit | Structural sample of your exact dieline in 48 hours - validate size and construction before committing |
| Physical pre-production samples | 1-5 units | Full-spec samples in 3-5 days; the fee is credited against your first order |
| 100-pc launch run | 100 pcs | The smallest fully-custom production run - see the low-MOQ program for formats and pricing |
| Colorway split | Within one MOQ | Same dieline split across two colorways is routine - confirm at quote stage as extra artworks add plates |
Budget planning across tiers - including what jumping 500 → 1,000 pcs does to unit price - is in the price guide; dimensions in the size guide; board and wrap choices in the materials guide.
