Quick answer

Short answer: a single 750 ml wine bottle box starts at about 350 × 95 × 95 mm interior (13.8 × 3.7 × 3.7 in) on 1800 gsm (~3.0 mm) greyboard. Our long gift box with a handle is listed at 360 × 110 × 110 mm for bottles, and the shoulder-and-neck box at 130 × 130 × 340 mm.

750 ml does not fix the bottle shape: one packaging distributor's Bordeaux-style listings run from about 302 to 330 mm tall and 74 to 82 mm wide. Measure your bottle, or send one.

What size box fits a 750 ml wine bottle?

Start at about 350 × 95 × 95 mm interior (13.8 × 3.7 × 3.7 in) for one 750 ml bottle. 750 ml is the common format, but the volume does not fix the shape: one packaging distributor's Bordeaux-style listings run from about 302 to 330 mm tall and 74 to 82 mm wide, and Burgundy, sparkling and spirits bottles differ again. Size the box from your bottle drawing or a sample bottle.

How do I measure a bottle for a gift box?

MeasureWhat it changes
Height, including the closureBox length (lying) or height (upright)
Maximum diameterInsert opening and box width
Neck and shoulder profileWhere a neck insert can hold the bottle
Filled weightBoard thickness and insert material
Anything else in the boxGlasses, a book, a card or a corkscrew, each with its own cavity

Can one box hold 2, 3 or 6 bottles?

Yes: the insert is cut for the bottle count and the outer box is sized to fit, so each count is its own size. Wineries often order the same design in several bottle counts for tasting packs and holiday sales; each size is quoted and sampled separately. A two-cavity insert can hold a bottle and a book side by side, or the book can sit in a recess in the lid.

What board and insert should a wine box use?

Longest box dimensionGreyboardThicknessTypical box
Up to 150 mm1200 gsm~2.0 mmMiniatures and fragrance-size bottles
150–250 mm1500 gsm~2.5 mmSmall bottles and short sets
Over 250 mm or >1 kg contents1800 gsm~3.0 mm750 ml wine, spirits and bottle-and-glass sets

Board is chosen by the longest box dimension and the filled weight. GSM is mass per area, so the thickness values are nominal; record measured thickness on the approved sample. Detail in the gift box materials guide.

Inserts: die-cut paperboard, EVA foam or a satin-lined cavity for each bottle, so bottles arrive upright and unscratched. We make and ship the empty boxes and inserts; bottles are packed at your winery or fulfilment site.

Send your bottle, we size the box

Send the bottle height and diameter (or a sample bottle), the bottle count and quantity per size. Rigid wine boxes start at 100 pcs per custom size, with a physical sample in 3–5 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dimensions of a wine box for one bottle?
About 350 × 95 × 95 mm interior (13.8 × 3.7 × 3.7 in) is a common starting point for a single 750 ml bottle, on 1800 gsm (~3.0 mm) greyboard. The final size is set from your bottle's height and diameter.
Are all 750 ml wine bottles the same size?
No. Shapes differ by style and supplier: one packaging distributor lists Bordeaux-style bottles from about 302 to 330 mm tall and 74 to 82 mm wide. Size the box from your bottle drawing or a sample bottle.
Can one box hold 2, 3 or 6 bottles?
Yes. The insert is cut for the number of bottles, and the outer box is sized to fit. Each bottle count is a separate size, quoted and sampled separately.
What board should a wine box use?
1800 gsm greyboard (about 3.0 mm) for boxes over 250 mm or with contents over 1 kg, which covers most bottle boxes. Smaller miniature and fragrance-size bottle boxes can use lighter board.
What do you need to size a wine box?
The bottle height and diameter, or a sample bottle, plus anything else in the box such as glasses, a book or a card. The insert is built around those items.
